national car

Austria offers some spectacular views to visitors and, by renting a car, you will get the opportunity to see much more of the country than just your initial destination. Austria offers a combination of well maintained city roads and motorways, plus mountainous and winding roads.

City Driving

  • There is a 50kmh speed limit in cities if no other signs are shown

  • You can drive in either lane if there is a minimum of two lanes and they are marked by cordons or guiding lines

  • A driver must stop in front of a pedestrian marking as soon as the pedestrian shows the intention of crossing the street

  • If a bicycle route is marked in a one way street, the cyclist can ride against the one way on this marking

Country Driving

  • There is a 100kmh speed limit outside of the cities if no other signs are shown

Travel tips

All vehicles must carry a reflective safety-vest which must be worn by the driver at any time they have to stop on the shoulder of the road and get out of their vehicle. It should be kept in the passenger cabin of the vehicle – not the boot – so that it can be put on prior to the occupant of the car getting out and stepping onto the road.
