Belgium rules and regulations
Road rules
- Vehicles drive on the right hand side of the road
- Vehicles approaching from the right always have priority unless specifically marked otherwise
- Trams always have priority
- Headlights should be used during the daytime in bad weather conditions and between dusk and dawn
- The horn must not be used in built-up areas, except in the case of immediate or extreme danger
- Cruise control is illegal on motorways
- International motorways are signified by green signs with white characters preceded by the letter E
- National highways are signified by blue signs with white letters preceded by the letter A
- Smaller highways may have more than one road number preceded by the letter N
- It is illegal to leave a dog unattended in a parked car
- A fire extinguisher and first aid kit are recommended
- Reflective jacket and warning triangle are compulsory
Driving regulations
- Minimum age for rental:
- 21 years of age
- Rental rates may be higher for renters aged 21-24
- Driving Licence:
- Valid full driving licence
- An International Driving Permit is required if the driver’s regular driving licence is in non-Roman script
