Road rules
  • Vehicles drive on the right hand side of the road 
  • Speed limit signs are not always obvious or clear 
  • Dipped headlights should be used in poor day time visibility 
  • Speed limits are strict and radar traps are often set up to catch speeding vehicles 
  • On mountain roads, ascending vehicles have priority 
  • On city roads, trams on the left have priority 
  • A driver must stop in front of a pedestrian marking as soon as the pedestrian shows
    the intention of crossing the street 
  • There are no marked bicycle routes 
Driving regulations
  1. Minimum age for rental:
    • 21 years of age
  2. Driving Licence:
    • Valid Full Driving Licence
    • Non-Europeans must carry an International Driving Permit

Travel tips

Some roads in Bosnia-Herzegovina are still damaged from the war with roads sometimes blocked due to landslides and de-mining activity. Also Bosnia-Herzegovina is among the few countries in Europe that has less than ten kilometres of four lane motorways.
