Road Safety
  1. Alcohol limit:
    • Laws against driving under the influence of alcohol are strict and follow a policy of zero tolerance
  2. Use of mobile phone whilst driving:
    • It is illegal to use a hand held mobile phone when driving
  3. Seat belts:
    • Seat Belts are compulsory for all passengers and drivers
    • No child under the age of 5 may sit in a front passenger seat
    • Children between the ages of 6 and 10 may only occupy the front passenger seat if a child’s seat belt has been fitted

  2. On the spot fines:
    • On the spot fines are issued for parking offences or a ticket is left on the vehicle
    • In the case of a foreign licence holder(e.g a tourist) the courts can fine or imprison the offending driver. 
    • Parking on zig zags or in a controlled area of a pedestrain crossing can be fined CY15.00.
    • Parking facing the flow of traffic on the right hand side of the road or in a restricted area can collect fines of up to €75.00.
    • Those who are caught contravening road traffic law will be required to pay the fine for non -endorsable offences.
General motoring advice
  1. Rush hour in built up areas:
    • 0730 – 0800hrs
    • 1300 –1330hrs
    • 1700 – 1830hrs
  2. Fuel:
    • Main fuel stations can be found in major towns only. Operational 0700 - 1900 hrs a day, some half day operational only on Tuesday, Wednesday ,Saturday and Sunday
    • Fuel stations operate payment facilities by cash or credit card via machines - 24hours ( availlable in Greek and English Instruction )
  3. Parking advice:
    • Parking places (municipal and private) are found in town centres and charges vary, approximately €2.00 -€3.00 for half day parking. Meters are also available
