City Driving

  • Headlights must be used at all times and parking restrictions are strict but clearly indicated

  • Parking vouchers cannot be bought from Service stations

Country Driving

  • Not many travellers take the time to explore the country outside Helsinki and Turku, but those that do are rewarded by an untouched wilderness rarely seen elsewhere in Europe

  • Motorists in Finland should remain alert for elk and reindeer which frequently wander onto roads and are most active at dusk

  • Snow tyres are required when driving in Finland from December to February. These will be provided for National Car Rental vehicles

Travel tips

On the Spot Fines for a variety of motoring offences can be very high in Finland and are based on an individual’s income level. However, Police are not empowered to collect fines on the spot – they must be paid at a bank or post office.
