Road rules
- Vehicles drive on the left hand side of the road and overtake on the right
- All cars are right-hand drive
- You are not permitted to make a u-turn, other than at designated roundabouts
- When turning right on a main road you must give way to oncoming traffic
- Gardai are responsible for enforcing road traffic law – all signals given by them must be observed
Driving regulations
- Minimum age for rental:
- 25 years of age
- Restrictions apply on vehicle types booked for ages 23-28
- An underage fee applies per day for drivers between 23-26
- Driving Licence:
- Visitors to Ireland may drive using their national licence, provided it is in a language that uses Roman letters and numbers
- Holders of other licences must also show an International Driving Permit in English
- You are obliged to carry your driving licence with you at all times when driving
