Lithuania rules and regulations

Road rules
  • Vehicles drive on the right hand side of the road                                     
  • Headlights must be used at all times
  • Wild animals, such as boars, moose and hinds and icy road conditions can create unexpected hazards
  • It is illegal to use a horn in towns and villages unless in extreme circumstances 
  • Winter tyres must be used in all vehicles driving in Lithuania from November 1st till March 31st, while summer tyres are used during the rest of the year. Universal tyres can be used all year round
Driving regulations
  1. Minimum age for rental:
    • 21 years of age and at least 1 year of driving experience for certain types of vehicle  
    • There are additional fees for certain groups of vehicles and for certain ages
  2. Driving Licence:
    • Driving Licence must be valid
    • Driving Licence must be in Latin letters
    • European Union citizens must carry a driving licence that reflects European Union standards
    • Non Europeans must carry an International driving permit

Travel tips

Winter tyres must be used in all vehicles driving in Lithuania from November 1st to March 31st. Summer tyres are used during the rest of the year. Universal tyres can be used all year round.
