Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in Europe and is very popular amongst holidaymakers. The beautiful, well-kept roads are easy to follow, through forests, alongside rocky river beds and to cities that are well worth a visit. Plus, the connection between Colmar-Berg and Mersch has recently been extended and was opened as a brand new motorway (N7).

City Driving

  • Town and city roads are generally in good condition

  • Driving in the very centre of cities may be challenging due to busy traffic and the large number of one-way streets

  • Signage is very clear and occasionally flashing orange (arrow shaped) lights will point drivers in the direction that they are allowed to travel

  • On many roads that lead into a city there will be an information sign and city map (just inside the city border on the side of the road).

  • The routes to parking lots are clearly indicated, however, parking in city centres is much more expensive than on the outskirts

Country Driving

  • Country roads in Luxembourg are mainly well sign posted and many of them are two-lane. Farm roads are mostly single lane

  • Be aware of overtaking vehicles on steep roads where you cannot get a good view of the situation in front of you

  • Take note of changes in speed limits (indicated on the signs)
