Road Safety
  1. Alcohol limit:
    • 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood
    • Penalties are extremely high
    • High amounts of alcohol in the bloodstream may result in imprisonment
  2. Use of mobile phone whilst driving:
    • It is illegal to use a mobile phone when driving, even with a hands free set, and the driver can be fined €40 on the spot
  3. Seat belts:
    • Compulsory for front seated passengers
    • Children must be at least 12 years of age to sit in the front of the vehicle unless a special secured seat is fitted
  4. Traffic lights regulations:

Costs
  1. Road tolls:
    • All the motorways in Macedonia are toll roads and use a ticket system.  Drivers collect a ticket at the start of their destination then hand it to the ticket inspector at the exit and pay the amount equal to the distance travelled.
  2. On the spot fines:
    • On the spot fines can be issued and are around €30 to €50

  2. Fuel:
    • Unleaded 95 and super 96, diesel and LPG are available
    • Not all credit/debit cards are accepted widely so advisable to carry local currency
  3. Parking advice:
    • Parking is allowed on the right side of the road
    • In the cities, there are many fee-paying car parks, but parking in the centre of the city can be very hard to find

Travel tips
