Driving in Poland is not dissimilar to many of the other Eastern and Central European countries. Whilst there has been a great degree of social change over the past few years this is only slowly filtering through to local motorists.

City Driving

  • There are very few highways in Poland and the 'normal' roads connecting cities are three lanes making it difficult to overtake

Country Driving

  • The police are very active in villages, looking for those who are speeding

  • Unlit horse-drawn wagons can also be found on country roads

  • There are large numbers of horse-drawn wagons carrying agricultural products on the public roads during harvest periods

Travel tips

Trams may be passed on the right but when a tram stops and there is no island to accept disembarking passengers, drivers must give way to the passengers who cross to the sidewalk.
