Slovenia has a well-developed road network, safe for travel. Motorways connect to neighbouring cities and countries and are clearly signposted. Road signs and traffic rules are similar to those used throughout Europe. Visitors driving in Slovenia should be aware that the local driving culture consists of some fast and aggressive drivers but these are in the minority. Otherwise local drivers obey the traffic rules and practice safe driving. Nevertheless the penalties for breaking the law are quite high and strictly enforced by the police. Understanding and preparing for local motoring attitudes, from the aggressive motorist to tailgating, will help make the driving experience a more relaxed one.
City Driving
-
As the number of cars in Slovenia continues to rise, city roads are becoming more heavily congested during the weekends on major routes and during rush hours
Country Driving
-
Traffic is usually smooth-going outside of the cities, except in areas where traffic from highways connects to local streets
